The company L’image après is ten years old. We’re based in Tours and there are ten of us. All of us have had and continue to have experience in artistic creation, programming and associative work. The team is made up of seven producers, also directors, two sound technicians also musicians, and a manager also a journalist.
Our collective work is structured around our review committee. Once a month, we discuss the proposals received and the films under way. This is where the duos that produce the films are formed.
We work with directors often making their first films, who take the risk of imagining creative documentaries which question us and which resemble them. It’s important that they have a taste for discussion for in our view, producing a film is of course managing a production, but it is also and above all accompanying the artistic process. The films we produce require time: time for writing, shooting, editing and the backs and forths between one stage and another are frequent, indeed inevitable. At the heart of the process, the attempt to express in cinema the relationship between a filmmaker and our time persists and becomes more precise.
In order to do this, our production approach consists in setting up the particular work method and the prototype economy that each project requires. This has meant working with local television stations, establishing international coproductions and recently increasing our capital to forty-five thousand euros to be able to produce feature-length films for the cinema. At a time when the public policies of support for creation are being questioned, these methods of production allow us to maintain a certain way of creating. And it is also the reason why we take part in ongoing discussions and the different regional and national collectives which defend the production of creative documentary.
In this way, we have produced twenty-eight films. Six films are currently in production and ten others are in development.
