A free-spirited work that defies all definition, a modernistic study in cinema as a medium in which Ferenc Kardos tries out various means of expression. The specificity of his film lies in the variety and freedom of this practice, in the way he piles up different visual solutions almost without pause, from the freeze-frame to slow motion, but also the way he juxtaposes fiction and documentary and articulates them. A variation on the themes of youth, love, knowledge, learning, the “principle” behind the variation being the playful liberty which accompanies the enterprise. (F. R.)
