It is a source of great pride for Florence Verney-Carron, vice-president in charge of culture, and myself that the Region supports the Lussas États généraux du film documentaire, which demonstrate the vigour of documentary practice in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and are a wonderful showcase for our influence.
I believe that documentary is an art that should be both popular and set high standards for itself. The États généraux du film documentaire are perfectly in tune with this goal. They provide a particularly favourable moment for exchange and confrontation among professionals on the practice of their craft, creating the synergies and facilitating the sharing of the best contemporary practices. They also allow transmission of advice from those who have learned from experience to the younger generations who will ensure the art’s continuation.
Even more, the États généraux du film documentaire foster the visibility of French-language documentary. Thereby they are a federating force for the francophone world, an aspect I consider particularly precious as the president of the International Association of Francophone Regions.
Congratulations to all the organisers who make this magnificent event possible!
President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Région
