The CNC Audivisual Support Fund reprensents an important source of documentary financing with nearly 80M€ distributed to documentary productions in 2018.
Around 60% of the documentaries presented were supported in the selective fund.
More than 70% of “fragile documentaries” (with a budget below 150,000€ per hour and broadcaster cash contribution below 12,000€ per hour) were funded in the selective commission.
Documentaries produced for VOD platforms can receive aid from the selective as well as automatic support funds.
The automatic support fund has been reformed so that it is better adapted to accompanying ambitious programmes both on artistic levels (lengthy development, shooting or editing, creation of original music) and production levels (diversified financing, export potential). Increased support is provided to very ambitious proposals on subjects of history, science and the arts.
A reflection will be undertaken about placing more value on investigative documentary.
The CNC is thinking about improving support for the export of our productions onto international markets, even if international coproduction is already encouraged with a minimum level of French financing set at 30%.
