For the États généraux du film documentaire which were held in August 2019, I remember that I had written with great pleasure about this unique gathering where documentary lovers have been meeting every summer for more than thirty years. Documentary is a living genre that constantly reinvents itself, asserts its formal freedom, and steadfastly strengthens our inclusion in human society.
Women and men. Young and old. General audience and professionals. The unwavering loyalty that binds us to the États généraux du film documentaire and to Lussas never fails, nor does the inspiring fraternity that we come to seek there.
Yet this year, the États généraux du film documentaire will have to reinvent themselves. And I know that the team leading this event is working tirelessly on it.
They will have to solve a difficult equation: how to remain a space of discovery, exchange, meetings without having the possibility of welcoming a merry, passionate crowd?
Whether on the Tënk platform, at reinvented screenings, at meetings with fewer participants, but who will only be more involved, the États généraux du film documentaire will continue to support the richness and diversity of perspectives that manifest an openness to the world which is proving more vital than ever.
It is this form of documentary that the Procirep supports with conviction.
The Procirep is happy to be associated with this new edition, and wishes the whole team and all the participants (whether they are in the Ardèche or online) an intense and creative edition.
