The États généraux du film documentaire will have a special spirit this year, not that of a thirty-second edition attracting to the village of Lussas thousands of festival goers, but that of a high point born by a symbolic energy, that of creative documentary defined as a window by which we look out onto the world, and this in spite of the restrictions imposed by the ongoing health crisis. It is thus a hybrid, and consequently enriched, format proposed by Ardèche Images, with in particular a part of the programme screened online via the platform Tënk. This formula is specially innovative and strongly supported by the Ardèche Département. It will be an essential partner of the event.
Thus adapted, mixing also debates, professional meetings and projections in inhabitants’ homes, the festival reflects one of the major strengths shared by Ardèche cultural structures: their inventiveness. Despite the constraints, they know how to find the interstices which allow the sharing of artistic creation in all its diversity with our inhabitants and a public; furthermore they do this with a growing attention to the themes of ecological transition, today inscribed at the heart of all the action led and supported by the Département. Ardèche has long carried out a policy of proactive cultural action aimed at reinforcing the central position played by the cultural actors of our territory, in particular in the field of documentary cinema, and with the constant preoccupation of allowing them durability, especially in the current context of instability that threatens the life of associations in the cultural sector.
The États généraux du film documentaire are a fine example of adaptability and, this year, confirm their essential role in the cultural, economic and social life of Ardèche. We will once again have the pleasure and surprise of letting ourselves be carried by the creators of documentary, met on the web or in the garden of someone’s home, with the same shared desire to transform our way of seeing.
