France likes documentary. We help it exist, from writing to screening, in cinemas and at festivals, particularly at Lussas, naturally by encouraging production. Public support, that of the CNC and the Regions, is the first source of financing for the production of documentary films.
The États généraux du film documentaire are a vital hub for independent documentary creation in this country and we are delighted to be an essential partner.
Indeed, allowing creators to be free in their creation is the goal of the CNC’s action, the objective of the new regulatory framework that we have been establishing these last two years: the financial and broadcasting obligations placed on platforms, the transposition of the directive on copyright, the revision of the obligations of historical broadcasters, the updating of our media chronology, all these projects have allowed us to create a new framework that consolidates our fundamental principles, first and foremost of which is the protection of creators and the independence of creation.
Though it is true that the pandemic has hit all sectors of the economy hard, we are lucky in our country to have a CNC whose role is to guarantee, by its support, this liberty to create and whose capacity to influence and regulate the cinema and audiovisual media industries is very important.
Hence, it is in the light of this new page in the history of our cultural exception, that strengthens the entire industry of creation in our country, and beyond this, our cultural sovereignty, that I wish to all excellent États généraux du film documentaire!
