Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the great Region of cinema in France. It is on our soil that the seventh art was born thanks to the genius of the Lumière Brothers. We are beholden to this heritage. Today we are obliged to note that the dynamism of this activity in our Region remains extremely strong. Indeed, we are number one in France in terms of the number of cinemas, the number of communes equipped with cinemas, and also the number of art houses.
This know-how deserves to be highlighted through events like the États généraux du film documentaire at Lussas. The event participates in the penetration of cultural activity which sets high standards for itself while remaining accessible. It also spotlights very rich cinematic styles that constantly sharpen our curiosity.
We at the Region are dearly attached to the ambition to actively support the radiance of our cinema industry. More particularly we finance some forty festivals and events that spotlight the achievements of our industry. We are especially mobilised to help film professionals to overcome the trials resulting from the health crisis. That is the reason why, very early in the pandemic, we created an emergency aid fund to support cultural activities.
It is certain that the États généraux du film documentaire will provide the opportunity to feel again the fine emotions that the art of cinema is capable of arousing.
