Since 2001, the authors of the audio works commission at the LaScam propose, with the “Nuit de la radio”, a unique experience of collective listening, to (re)discover mythical excerpts from radio history, drawn from the Ina collections.
A programme, on a new theme every year, is discovered wearing headphones, under the stars all along the year. The choice of themes permits the producers to cull freely from radio’s long history and to invent a singular narrative freed from chronological constraints.
Inaugurated in Paris for a first hearing, the “Nuit de la radio” is also scheduled in the programme of the prestigious festivals such as the États généraux du film documentaire at Lussas, and Longueurs d'ondes – the festival of radio and listening at Brest.

Since its creation, the “Nuit de la radio” has notably been compiled on: the Shores of Elsewhere (2009), the Spirit of Places (2014), censorship (The Ears have Walls, 2010), Africa (2003), Pleasures (2013), Voices on the Airwaves (2005), Black (2008), Things will be better tomorrow! (2012), Shockwaves (2015), Farewell to Tears (2016), Liberties (2017), Dusk is Falling, Night is Rising (2018), Remaking the world (2019) and Being Twenty (2020-2021)…

Constructed this year on the theme A Spatial panoptic, this sound programme was written and produced by Amandine Casadamont.

A SPATIAL PANOPTIC (Programme length: 1h20)

During the second half of the 20th century, space ceased to be the domain of the imaginary. Humanity’s old dream finally came true.
Little by little, a change took place and humanity extended its territory to the stars. The goals of the first space missions were more scientific than military, at least in appearance.
The conquest of space, born amid the cold war, already suggested that human ambitions would spread and that, just like on Earth, flags would be planted.
From there, everything could be seen, controled, houses could be built, companies, prisons, laboratories, weight could be eliminated, resources could be found, debris could be left and upcoming wars carried out.
From the moment humanity took control of space, the notions of the impossible and the infinite once again shifted, for the better, and the worse…
