Les États généraux du film documentaire 2022 Sacem day

Sacem day

The Sacem enthusiastically associates with this new edition of the États généraux du film documentaire at Lussas. The Sacem and the festival hold dear the support they give to those who breathe life into documentary creation, by their talent, their commitment and daily labour. Our society is delighted to be able to celebrate the powerful connections uniting music and the image and to be able to award the prize for the Best music documentary 2022.

Because a film is listened to as much as it is watched, the direction, screenwriting and musical composition are three important components of a cinematographic work. Among its members, the Sacem counts a large number of composers of music for the image as well as nearly 3,500 creative filmmakers. We extend to them each year our unfailing support. Aid for the creation of original music exists for films in various formats such as documentary, feature film, short film, fiction or series. The Sacem is committed to accompanying artistic careers, facilitating the screening of works and the renewal of repertories, supports the emergence of new talents and guarantees the insertion of young professionals. Our support for the États généraux is fully embedded amid these engagements.

As is its custom, the Sacem will offer a carte blanche day to spotlight the work of a composer of original music. For this edition, we honour the composer Jorge Arriagada.

A fine occasion to celebrate documentary film and the musical creation dedicated to it, which question the world and its history, this festival is an unmissable meeting place with an inspiring and important programme.

Excellent festival to all,

Serge Perathoner

Composer, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Sacem

A day with Jorge Arriagada

After studying composition and conducting in Chile, I obtained a bursary in Paris from 1967 to 1971 to study serialism with Max Deutsch and electro-acoustic music with Pierre Schaeffer.

In 1970, I created the “Music Workshop”, a laboratory of electro-acoustic music at the American Center for Students and Artists in Paris where I taught musical composition for students supported by French government bursaries.

In 1973, I obtained a bursary from the Guggenheim Foundation in the USA and I worked on computer assisted techniques of musical composition at Stanford University, California.

It was only in 1977 that I met Raúl Ruiz in Paris and began working in cinema as a film composer.

Today after forty years of work in film with thirty directors and more than fifty films including forty something documentaries, it is a great pleasure to be among you at the États généraux du film documentaire with the Sacem to speak about music and film.

We will screen two documentaries and a fiction feature, Terror's Advocate by Barbet Schroeder, Daniel Rosenfeld’s Al centro de la tierra and Time regained by Raúl Ruiz.
