In this year of 2022, we have the pleasure of celebrating the 34th anniversary of the États généraux du film documentaire of Lussas, an event which brings together each year professionals and amateurs of documentary, a genre in constant renewal and imbued with a formal liberty acclaimed by all.
These États généraux are always the bearers of new questions, a truly motivating sense of fraternity and high-quality meetings between the public and professionals as well as among writers, directors and producers.
The États généraux du documentaire will continue to support the wealth, diversity of point of view that display an opening to the world that has become ever more vital and we can only salute the energy that all the teams at Lussas devote to reinventing themselves and adapting to new challenges.
This adaptation has not only been provoked by the current health and economic crises, but also by rapid shifts in the modes of distribution, making it ever more important to preserve the genre, its diversity but also its financing.
Providing the occasion to debate, to confront points of view, documenting the aspirations, suffering, and fragments of happiness in our lives is indispensable for us today. Documentary filmmakers in France and elsewhere continue their task of speaking of the world from a human perspective.
By their singularity, they represent today an opportunity for education, debate and the re-awakening of democracy. By sharing their films with citizens, they invite us to open our minds, develop a critical attitude imbued with empathy and emotion.
I seize the occasion to pay tribute to the memory of my friend Jean-Louis Comolli, whose spirit and memory will watch over this edition of Lussas and to whom all documentary filmmakers owe so much.
It is this documentary so alive and so questioning that the Procirep firmly supports, wishing to all an intense, creative and—let us not forget—joyous festival.
