According to a study published by the CNC in May 2022, 48% of the French public say they are going less often to the cinema. Various factors are at play: loss of habit, rising ticket prices, but also the rise of VOD platforms correlated with a greater tendancy to view at home. After two years of health restrictions, the audiovisual industry is asking the question: will film houses recover their audiences?
If the figures refer to the major groups, what do they say about arthouses and platforms for film buffs? How can we build a complementary relation between film buff VODs and art houses for a greater visibility of creative documentary? And finally, what are the expectations of the public?
