From Monday 22.08 to Wednesday 24.08, in Saint-Laurent-sous-Coiron, behind closed doors.
The 2022 edition of the August Encounters promises to be once again highly promising with this year a truly record number of applications. We are proud and happy, and even more so because since the creation of these meetings in 1999, there has been a multiplication of different initiatives encouraging the emergence of documentary projects in the framework of various festivals.
But here at Lussas of course we can count on some essential assets: first of all our conviction that it is not useful to encourage competition, nor to convince purchasers (others do that) but quite on the contrary to pursue work, with an approach favouring collective thinking, in a setting and a time sufficiently propicious and long, on selected projects with valuable partners representing all the structures supporting documentary in France but also in Europe.
Then, and above all, the August Encounters bring together in a site whose beauty is still intact people who are generous, committed, ready to participate in exchange and to listen. The Monday workshops first of all will be led by a fine quartet of producers, made up this year of Rebecca Houzel (Petit à petit production), Céline Loiseau (TS Productions), Raphaël Pillosio (l’atelier documentaire) and Eugénie Michelle Villette (Les Films du Bilboquet). Then, during the following two days, tables will be set up in the village where duos defending projects will have lengthy discussions of forty-five minutes with pairs of readers, programme commissioners, platform editors, distributors and institutional representatives.
And let us not forget that each year, in the wake of these meetings which maintain their distance with the spirit of the marketplace, important new films are born, are awarded prizes and meet their publics in festivals, on platforms and through television broadcasters.
