Betty
Dimitri Stavrakas
1979 - 33 min - 35 mm - Couleur - Grèce

Treading the thin line between fiction and documentary, a portrayal of the famous Betty, an Athenian trans- sexual, which avoids all the traps of cheap voyeurism. Betty’s narration touches on her childhood, everyday life, pleasure and self-esteem, as well as social exclusion.
Stavrakas’ film is an important statement on the transition from a politics of class to a politics of identity, at a time when the gay community decided to react to homophobia and marginalisation. (Charlotte Garson)
