Almendros had the idea of filming, with the outs of commissioned films, the day after the nationalisation of Cuba’s private beaches. What happened was the invasion of these places by people who wanted to know where the members of holiday clubs had fun, people who were not only the rich but also workers who could join these clubs provided they paid. “There were bars, people were dancing, swimming, eating, making love. I simply filmed their behaviour, Cuba as it always was.” Labeled counter-revolutionary, the film was seized and then banned.
