A radical film essay, Guantánamo deploys a whole arsenal of documentary strategies on its complex subject, dissecting the relation of the city with its military occupiers through archives, reconstitutions, photomontages and interviews. “I was drawn to Guantánamo because it was like an Achilles’ heel. It was not only because of the idyllic appearance of false progress and false liberty behind which hides American imperialism. I was also drawn to Guantánamo because it represented a dramatic rise of revolutionary consciousness in the most unfavourable circumstances.” José Massip.
