Solitude ( Egyedül )
Sándor Sára
1963 - Hongrie - Noir & Blanc - 22'

“Who wants somebody who’s old and sick?” asks one of the multitude of voices recounting stories of solitude. First the elderly, then other generations appear to echo their sentiments with other portraits, other fragments of tales. They are mostly women’s voices that denounce the violence of being forsaken. The diminishing of sounds and music, the images stripped bare but of great formal beauty, amplify the state of collective solitude that Sára makes us share. He creates in this way a choral effect made up of individuals. Perhaps there are no people who are alone or lonely, but “only” people who have been abandoned. (Dario Marchiori)
