Zou tells the story of a one legged man who advances with more intensity than a valid man. The amputated leg, a ghost limb that he can still move in his mind, is the centre of this story. Simultaneously a trace of the war which cost him most of the members of his family, forcing him to flee his country and a hindrance to his flight making the act of walking painful and more laboured than for any of his road companions, it is also the pivot for his integration in a new society.
