A film to illustrate the history of Albania, since its creation at the turn of the century till Soli Berishan's election in 1992, first democratically elected president.
Through the recollection of great historical events and the larger-than-life individuals that participated in them - the Balkans wars, King Zog, Enver Hodja - Kadare's stories come to life with the help of an astonishing and unpublished archival film footage. This historical report of a region plagued by a chronic instability documents how, at every moment, the fragile peace that followed the fall of communism is challenged.
