La Cathédrale de Justo
Xavier Baudoin
2003 - 56 min - Beta digital - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - France

In Mejorada, in the suburbs of Madrid, Justo, a former Trappist monk, began, almost half a century ago, building a "cathedral" without advance planning and using salvaged materials. The man who was taken at first for the village idiot has erected a monumental piece of work.
For 15 years, the director filmed on several occasions this building site which progresses with the seasons and the years, on the fringes of the religious institutions and the law. Today he has come back to meet the inhabitants of the village during the festival for the local patron saint.
Through their testimony, Justo’s story becomes the identity of this "uneventful" village before the legend, perhaps, sets in...
