Le Solitaire du château du Fresne
Pierre Beuchot
2001 - 55 min - DV Cam & Beta numérique - Couleur - France

Alain du Perier de Larsan, who has been the mayor of his Normandy village for the past quarter century, has now decided to step down. Weakened by illness, he no longer leaves his château, the last remaining possession of the family patrimony – an old abode filled with the mementos of a remarkable lineage. With elections coming up, the Count receives visits daily. The members of the city council, brought by the deputy mayor, talk of the years of work together and the difficulty of finding a successor. Others pay friendly calls an old Resistance companion, neighbouring breeders, a former cook. In the course of these meetings conductive to confidences and reminiscences, we gradually get a picture of this maverick 80-year-ol aristocrat, deeply marked by the Resistance and the deportation, the first acts of a life driven by a refusal to accept things as they are.
