Caught up by her social life, Irène only gives passing attention to her son Michel. Unable to support his mother’s indifference, the child commits suicide. Irène, overwhelmed with grief, then opens up to the suffering of others and devotes her time to the deprived. This attitude bewilders the people around her who think she’s mad.
