Une histoire de production : Les Films du Balibari

In 2015, I began working with Les Films du Balibari, a subsidiary of Point du Jour since 2013. Les Films du Balibari is a production company founded in Nantes in 1998, and run since 2004 by Estelle Robin You, producer of multiple award winning films like A Village without Women by Srdjan Sarenac and the more recent The Last Refuge by Ousmane Samassekou.
Point du Jour and its distribution branch Point du Jour International were created in Paris in 1988. Made up initially of journalists in the field who were interested in filming the hot spots of the planet, it has become an important player in the audiovisual industry directed by Luc Martin-Gousset, a producer of several documentary “musts” such as William Karel’s Operation Moon or again this year, The Outreau Affair by Agnès Pizzini and Olivier Ayache-Vidal.
In 2019, I became an associate. Point du Jour and Les Films du Balibari merged to share their complementary experiences and to continue a policy of supporting filmmakers that we discover and continue working with, promoting a variety of narrative forms, stories, and partnership networks in the field of creative documentary.
Based in Lyon, I have thrived within this collective of committed producers by spending a lot of energy, both locally and internationally, placing interest in humanity at the heart of the story. I grew up alongside documentarians such as the Nigerian Aicha Macky (The Fruitless Tree, Zinder), Arno Bitschy (This Train I Ride, Lynn & Paris), the Spaniard Ainara Vera whose first documentary I produced for theatrical distribution Polaris, etc. Our films, often internationally coproduced, travel all around the world, in festivals and on all screens. At the moment I am writing these lines, the company is experiencing difficulties and a process of takeover is under way. Whatever the future may hold, the project will continue to defend a space for the creation of singular and audacious films.
