Les États généraux du film documentaire 2023 Sacem Day

Sacem Day

It is with true enthusiasm that the Sacem associates with this new edition of the États généraux du film documentaire at Lussas. The Sacem and the festival are heartily committed to supporting all those who breathe life into documentary creation, with their talent, with their engagement and their daily work. Our Society is delighted to celebrate here the powerful ties that unite music and the image and to award the prize for the Best music documentary 2023.
Because a film is listened to as much as it is watched, direction, screenwriting and musical composition are the three major components of a cinematographic work. The Sacem counts among its members a large number of composers of music for the image, as well as nearly 3,500 creative filmmakers. Each year we offer our unreserved support to the industry. Support for original musical creation is rolled out through five different funds dedicated to feature film, short film, documentary, fiction and TV series. Our priorities include accompanying artistic careers, supporting the screening and distribution of films, renewing repertories and supporting the emergence of new talents and the integration of young professionals.
Our participation and support of the États généraux is fully part of these commitments. As is its custom, the Sacem honours the work of a particular composer of original film music by offering him or her a carte blanche to set the programme for the day. For this edition, the composer thus honoured is Florencia Di Concilio.
A fine occasion to celebrate documentary film and the musical creation dedicated to it, which question the world and its history, this festival is a crucial meeting place with an inspiring and important programme.

Excellent festival to one and all,

Christine Lidon,
Creator, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Sacem

A day with Florencia Di Concilio

Hailed by the international press, Florencia Di Concilio is one of the more prolific and versatile artists of the new generation of composers of classical, film or electronic music.
Born in Uruguay, Florencia studied at the lycée français at Montevideo. In her teens, she left for the USA to study piano and composition at the highly prestigious New England Conservatory of Boston.
Florencia Di Concilio composed the original music for Les Années Super 8 (Super 8 Years), an intimate study directed by David Ernaux-Briot and Annie Ernaux, Nobel Prize winner for literature in 2022, and Les Cinq Diables (Five Devils) by Léa Mysius, both selected for the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the 2022 Cannes Festival. During 2021 and at the beginning of 2022, she wrote the original music for Tanaz Eshaghian’s When Strangers Come to Town, Heddy Honigmann’s No Hay Camino, La Scala by Bruno Chiche with Yvan Attal, Pierre Arditi and Miou-Miou, and De Grandes espérances, a political thriller by Sylvain Desclous, breaking audience records in film houses at the moment. She has just finished the original music for Madame de Sévigné by Isabelle Brocard with Karin Viard, Ana Girardot and Cédric Kahn.
Described as a “shock composer” by Télérama for her work on Calamity, the critics were also enthusiastic about her score for Ava by Léa Mysius: “Florencia Di Concilio’s music is absolutely remarkable” (Mediapart), “Florencia Di Concilio’s score, as much minimally bruitist as musical, reconnects with the original use of music in cinema” (France Info), “A film carried by its masterful direction and an extremely rich soundtrack with a heady score by Florencia Di Concilio” (20 minutes), “Florencia Di Concilio’s eerie score is another treat” (Hollywood Reporter), “We will remember the minimalist and intimist music by Florencia Di Concilio, the perfect accompaniment for the main character” (Culturellement Vôtre).

Screenings hosted by Céline Leclère, in the presence of Florencia Di Concilio.
