Writing and developing a creative documentary

The CNC is organising a workshop on the development process of a documentary supported by the Documentary Innovation Fund.

It will focus on the project Frissons des os du dos by Mickael Damperon, produced by Pulp films, which received development aid from FAI DOC.

It will provide an opportunity to discuss the specific issues for such a formally ambitious project, its development process and the stages of production and co-production with Cambodia.

Summary

In Cambodia, a man wanders in the heart of a primary forest. Machete in his belt, cigarette in the corner of his mouth, he says he’s not afraid of the ghosts he comes across. A radio programme, Frissons des os du dos, relays testimonies from listeners about their encounters with the dead. An invisible part of the world is revealed. What if the living and the dead had things to say to each other?

Director and cinematographer for fifteen years, Michael Damperon is interested in social issues and the way human beings live together.
In his first documentary film Des couturières sur le fil, he followed the struggles of textile workers who, day in, day out, fought to save their jobs. In Des cailloux dans la chaussure (2022), he continued this exploration, questioning the place of the citizen in the political decision-making process and our attitude to the ecological emergency.

Over the last few years he has been looking more specifically at the close and sometimes strange links between man and nature, as in Frissons des os du dos.

Workshop in the presence of Mickael Damperon (filmmaker) and Clarisse Barreau (producer) led by Fabienne Hanclot (Head of Diversity in Creative Project Development), and Marine Coatalem (in charge of the Documentary Innovation Aid Fund).
