Les États généraux du film documentaire 2023 Procirep

Procirep

As a historical supporter of the États généraux at Lussas and of creative documentary in all its forms, the Procirep, French Society of Producers for Cinema and Television, is happy to be once more among the partners of the thirty-fifth edition. Financial support for the documentary genre and in particular for production companies remains indeed one of the major axes of the policy of supporting creativity at the Procirep. A preponderant portion of the Television Commission’s budget has been devoted to this activity from the beginning, a commitment to which we are dearly attached in spite of the progressive drop these last years of revenues from taxes on private copy, the major source of our funds.
In the middle of this Année du documentaire, a year that in our opinion should mark a lasting renewal of the interest of all publics for the genre and not just in 2023, expectations are high. This thirty-fifth edition of the États généraux in Lussas will thus offer a new period facilitating the exploration of documentary film, provoking exchange between professionals and with the public around a kind of cinema particularly apt at stimulating debate and sharing knowledge.
This year, it is with the theme of justice (“Filming trials, filming justice… the just image?”) that the week will begin, opening fascinating questions of ethics and cinematic practice. The stories – some will say the adventures – of production will also be on the menu of the professional discussions.
Reflections on creation and production, training and transmission, opening up to the world, all this is also the meaning of the support given by Procirep to the École documentaire and to Docmonde, initiatives associated with the États généraux du film documentaire and which will be once again this year in the spotlight.
Finally we are awaiting the selection of films which will encourage thinking about the world, vibrating with its upheavals, fragile and precious gems that films can be and that we wish to defend.
Thank you to the organisers and their teams for their passion and dedication to documentary cinema.

Félicie Roblin
Chair of the Procirep Television Commission
