A city is like a person, it is the summary of all its inhabitants, big and small, powerful and humble. Dark at times, hopeful, joyful and sad at others. It gets up with the first of them and goes back to rest with the last. Made between 1962 and 1963 by José María Arzuaga, a key figure in the history of Colombian cinema, this colourful and modernist city symphony takes place in a cyclical time frame, presenting a day in the life of the inhabitants of Bogotá, from one sunrise to the next, combining images and music. The original title of this film was Rhapsody in Blue - Rhapsody in Bogotá: an homage to George Gershwin, whose rhythms guide the kaleidoscopic editing. F.R.
